Frequently Asked Questions

General

I installed the app but nothing opened. Where is it?

Audio Selector is a menu bar-only app — it doesn't appear in the Dock. Look for its icon in the menu bar at the top-right of your screen and click it to open the device list.

Does it work with my USB DAC or audio interface?

Yes. Audio Selector works with any audio output device macOS recognizes — built-in speakers, Bluetooth headphones, USB DACs, and audio interfaces. You can switch devices and change the hardware format (bit depth / sample rate) without opening Audio MIDI Setup.

Why don't I see a specific sample rate for my device?

Audio Selector lists exactly the formats your device reports to macOS. If a rate isn't listed, the device (or its driver) doesn't expose it. Some devices also lock their format while another app holds them in exclusive mode.

iOS Remote

How do I connect the iOS Remote app to my Mac?

Install Audio Selector Remote on your iPhone or iPad, then on your Mac open Settings › Remote and turn on the remote daemon. With both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, the iOS app finds your Mac automatically. For advanced setups you can also enter the Mac's IP address and port manually.

Is the remote connection secure?

The connection stays entirely on your local network — no external servers are involved. You can additionally enable 'Require Pairing' on the Mac so only iOS devices you explicitly approve can connect.

Roon Integration

What does Roon Volume Integration do?

When enabled, Audio Selector detects the output devices on your Mac that Roon is exclusively playing to and keeps their volume in sync — adjust it from Roon, from Audio Selector, or from the iOS Remote app. Volume changes are routed through Roon itself, so they work even while Roon holds the device in exclusive mode.

How do I set up the Roon integration?

Turn on 'Roon Volume Integration' in Settings › Volume › Integrations, then approve Audio Selector as an extension in Roon (Roon Settings › Extensions). A Roon server must be running on your local network.

Do I need Roon to use Audio Selector?

No. The integration is optional and off by default — every other feature works without Roon.

Pro

Does Pro apply to the iOS Remote app too?

Yes. Purchase Pro once on your Mac and the iOS Remote app detects it automatically over the connection, giving you an ad-free experience on iOS at no extra cost.

What is the Volume Bar icon?

A Pro menu bar icon type that shows your volume level as a bar. It can display just the active output, every device at once, or Roon-playing devices — each with its own custom color. Choose it in Settings › General › Icon Type.

Privacy

Does Audio Selector collect any data?

No. The app doesn't collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything runs locally on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy for details.
